Prenatal & Postnatal Pilates

With so much to think about before and after your baby comes, caring for your quickly changing body can easily fall through the cracks. Think twice! There is an overwhelming amount of research showing the benefits of staying fit during your pregnancy, both for you and your future child.

Prenatal Exercise

Regular exercise during pregnancy can reduce your risk of many complications, make for a less painful delivery and faster recovery time, and return you to your pre-pregnancy body much quicker. If that doesn’t sway you, your pre-natal exercise program is good for your baby too! Studies show that your baby’s experience in the womb will affect his or her health, even into adulthood. Prenatal Pilates

Pilates is the perfect way to stay fit and healthy during your pregnancy. Pilates strengthens your pelvic floor muscles and transverse abdominis. When these muscles are strong, you put less strain on your lumbar spine and prepare for the physiological stresses of pregnancy before, during and even after birth.

At Roots Down, we work with you to create a safe, effective and approachable routine. At your evaluation, you will meet with Lindsey to discuss your goals and limitations. With hundreds of props and modifications, your routine will change along with you throughout your journey.

Postnatal Pilates

You can begin your postnatal Pilates routine as early as 6-8 weeks after birth. Lindsey will work with you to understand your limitations and needs. Every pregnancy and every person is different. If Private Pilates Lessons are an option for you, that’s ideal. You’ll learn to re-build your core in a tailored way. If not, ask about a group class that is appropriate for you!

After your baby comes, it can be hard to get out of the house alone. No problem! We can find a time when you can bring your little one(s) with you to the studio. We are a small, intimate space, so it isn’t hard to find times when you are the only client here. (This option is only for Private or Semi-Private Lessons)

Give us a call, and see if Roots Down could be the perfect fit for you and your beautiful changing body :)

Note: Both Prenatal and Postnatal Pilates are very different from traditional Pilates taught in group classes. We will be adding a Pre/Post Natal Group Class to the schedule very soon! In the meantime, please ask about Private or Semi-Private lessons if you are expecting or very recently postpartum (less than 4 months).
